ACCEPTING A JOB OFFER

Congratulations on your new job offer. Getting an offer that you have been hoping for is an excellent news, but don’t not be carried away by the offer. You need to consider so many things like the pay, benefits, start time, terms of work, and if you have multiple offers, you want to negotiate the salary properly.

Don’t feel pressured into accepting an offer right away, take your time to think about the job and the offer (compensations). It’s advisable to give a response usually within 24-48 hrs. Also remember that you need to make the employers feel that you are enthusiastic about the job that they are offering you. Ask for the job offer in writing and do not negotiate salary in writing, it’s advisable to do that in person or over the phone. If after your research, you decide to decline the offer let your prospective employer know as soon as possible.

You need to make a research about the company that you are accepting their offer, you can do that through reviews on social media. You can read reviews to know if the company is a great place to work, their reputation as an employer, and their values. It is also important to check if their values align with yours and what the office culture is like.

Don’t be afraid to ask your potential employer questions, this demonstrates you’re committed and taking their offer serious.

You need to ask yourself important questions and be honest with yourself.

It is important to ensure that you are truly interested in the job and it is for the right reasons.

If the job fits into the vision of yourself and your career goals or does the role fit into your career plans and objectives.

If you are not really interested in the job and you are taking up the offer as a stop gap to leave your present job because you don’t like the job, then it will be right for you to wait for a better opportunity so that you will not be jumping from frying pan into fire.

What is your proposed start date, is your job description clearly stated and do you understand your job responsibilities?

What hours will you be working.

Is the salary within your expectations.

Read and understand the terms and conditions and review the small print properly. If this is not included along with the documents sent out to you, ask your employer for a copy and ensure you read and understand it properly.

What type of benefit do they offer? It will be good to look at their pension scheme, sick pay and other benefits that you can think of.
